An organic fruit and vegetable cleanser, prepared from extracts of microbes and citric acid, claiming to clean pesticide and insecticide residues, was launched on Saturday in the Kerala market.
Called ‘Bio Fresh’, the new product is being marketed by Blue Saffire Trading Corporation (BSTC).
The product will be first available in major retail outlets in Kochi and other parts of the state. They have also plans to launch it at Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and Gulf countries.
The market feasibility test undertaken by Advanced Market Studies has shown a positive response. It is priced at Rs 79 for 200 ml bottle.
Most fruits and vegetables are sprayed with highly toxic pesticides and insecticides. These have been linked to cancer, reproductive problems and neurological problems, BSTC Managing Director K Siva Atmajan told a press meet here.
Bio Fresh has been designed to completely wash away harmful chemicals, artificial wax coating, contaminants, grime and germs from fruits and vegetables and does not contain any artificial colouring agents or perfume, he claimed, adding it was colourless and odourless.
The company has plans to sell about 3 lakh bottles per month. Steps were on to get the product patented, he said.
