U.K. organic milk consumption beyond 200 mil’ liters annually

Yeo Valley Organic , a U.K. organic dairy company, Tuesday said U.K. consumers are now drinking more than 200 million liters of organic milk a year.

Based on A C Nielsen Scantrack research, the data indicate that the organic sector of the British milk market is growing by 11.5 percent a year.

Organic milk is now worth almost £150 million ($306.7 million), which is more than 16 percent ahead of the previous 12 months, compared to the growth for the total milk market at 6 percent, the Somerset, England-based company said.

According to Yeo Valley, these figures show that the organic milk sector in the United Kingdom’s grocery trade is one of its fastest-growing, fresh-produce markets. The company said its own brand was growing 147 percent year-over-year.

“There are strong ethical and environmental benefits in favor of organic milk that appeal to a growing number of consumers, but each time there’s new research showing nutritional benefits, sales take a further leap forward, so there’s little doubt that the figures will be even more positive come the end of December,” said Ben Cull, Yeo Valley’s marketing director.

“Private-label as well as branded organic milk has been performing strongly. These figures are despite the fact that there was a shortage of supply at the end of 2006 and early 2007, which held back market growth,” Cull added.

    RE: The lost art of the prevention of common illnesses in dry cows,have at least 90% [or more]less sick fresh cows. Much easier to prevent illnesses in dry cows than to treat sick fresh cows and lose milk.
    Dairy farmers in north america have no or very poor dry cow programs. Few know that you can cut sick cows by 90% [or more] all without the use of drugs or chem.I can raise any dairy farmer`s cal f to be bigger, healther,and give more milk with lower scc and live longer.I work as herdsman for the president of northeastern Organic Farmers ass. I Can Prevent 90%[or more]of Milkfever,mastitis,ketosis,acidosis,acidophilus, ecoli.etc. Also few dairy farms worm there dry cows.What is safer and more potent then chemical wormers[which damage cows liver] and you can easily grow yourself? What is the best rumen item that is cheaper yet far better than anything off the jobbers truck?[you can reduce your grain by 10% and make the same amount of milk with lower scc.and not find a fleas on your cows after one month.]

    How to reduce manure odor by50%[what dairy farm would not be interested[and make 5to15% more milk and also lower scc by 50% or more at the same time! Raise calfs to have less sick days and make more milk.
